The vocals and picked instruments on both tracks were recorded live in the chapel at Leckhampton’s Sue Ryder hospice during Damon’s final days. The A side track, “The Day Paradise Burnt Down”, was recorded just two days before he passed. The B side instrumental, “The Cefn” (which means “ridge” in Welsh), is named and inspired by the tranquil place in Wales where Damon stayed for his last holiday and it is where he is standing on the single’s cover photo.

Damon left instructions as to what other instruments he wanted added to the tracks and they have been added by Mark Cole who has kept the additions to a minimum so that Damon’s singing and playing can be heard clearly.
